In a blatant show of disregard towards any interest in the truth, Democratic Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) implied Friday that Republicans are simply touting conspiracy theories while pushing for answers about the Benghazi attacks in 2012 or the growing evidence of an IRS scandal targeting conservative groups. He eluded that the two investigations by Republicans could be disregarded as quickly as the allegation of space aliens being held at Area 51.
Doggett was one of many Democrats who defended IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, during what they claim is a Republican attack against the IRS and the Obama administration. When it was Doggett’s turn to speak, he asked Koskinen a series of questions dealing with the “seriousness” of the hearing.
Rep. Doggett: “Have you ever been in Benghazi?”
Rep. Doggett: “Do you know if you or Ms. [Lois] Lerner have ever had any responsibility for anything having to do with Benghazi and our embassy there?”
Then the line of questioning turned to other, assumed, “conspiracy theories”:
Rep. Doggett: “How about Area 51 out in Roswell, New Mexico, where all those space aliens allegedly came? Have you ever had any responsibility for that?”
Rep. Doggett: “Have you ever had custody of the president’s birth certificate?”
“I believe one of the mistakes that you’ve made in dealing with the committee today is that you did assume professionally that this is a serious inquiry. I believe it’s an endless conspiracy theory here.”
